An honouring farewell is never an easy post to write. The members of Meliza Mary fulfil such a precious roll in my business that goes beyond just doing a job. Allot has happened recently, and so the whirl wind of life’s busyness has kept me from this part of my business. So today’s post is going to be a bit more focused on the journey I have been on for the past 5 months.
Well, here it comes…
It’s a weird feeling having to announce the death of your mother and business partner in a poetic blog post. Half of me feels like just saying it straight. The other half feeling like telling a story. Well she did. My precious mom got ill very suddenly at the beginning of October 2017 and by the end of December she was gone.
This is who she was to me
She was the driving force behind me. She kept me from giving up so many times, that I lost count. I often have brides express how much they loved working with me and how I made them feel so special. When I receive these compliments, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude towards her, my biggest fan. She saw the gold in me and she nurtured it. She sacrificed so much to get us to China. We had a goal to import our own wedding dresses. She made sure that we achieved just that! The cherry on the cake was when she fell in love with our best seller Nikita. At first I didn’t see the dress as she did. She simply said “If I can choose one bridal gown while we are here, I choose this one.”
A woman of wisdom who saw the magic
She loved and carried me when I cried over my failures. She spoke hard sense into me when I wanted to rush ahead on half-baked ideas. I loved how she used to call almost every time I had a new bride and ask if she could come by and be a part of the magic. She made me feel like a magician. She made me believe that nothing was too big or impossible for me to achieve. What a woman, what a mother and what a friend. I am left now with the legacy of who she was, a voice of positivity and a real trouper who didn’t believe in giving up. Mommy, Meliza Mary will not be the same without you, but it is now my mission to make you proud, to look at my store through your eyes and see it grow beyond what I could ever imagine.
Onward I go, in her honour
I felt the need to write this post to honour my mom for the integral part she played in starting this business. She watched it grow and nurtured it along the way. With the closing of one chapter, I have started on a new one. One that started off feeling lonely and overwhelming. As the weeks ticked by, I realised that I needed to recreate the Meliza Mary team and so I started searching for my new right hand. I needed someone who embodied passion for the industry and of course, wedding dresses.
This is when I met Jane Mound. This ray of life, enthusiasm and hope came bursting into my life with her wedding planning background, love for organisation and structure. She was just what I needed. The business feels full of life and passion again. Together we stand shoulder to shoulder, ready to give each bride our full attention and the service that Meliza Mary is known for. We will continue to deliver the passion that Sharon so loved about our brand, what makes us who we are.
